How to play Train Answering (Kai Huo Che)
- Teach the call and response. You say: "Train, train, where does it go?" The row you point to answers: "The train goes here!"
- Point to the words on the board (or hold up a card). The first student in the row stands, reads the first word or answers the first question, and sits down.
- The next student continues right away with the next word. No gaps, just like train cars.
- If a student is stuck or gets it wrong, the train stops. The class says the answer together, the student repeats it, and the train carries on.
- When the last car is done, give the row a quick cheer or a point, and ask "Train, train, where does it go?" again for the next row.
Variations
- Timed train: time each row on the same word list and challenge the next row to beat the record.
- Chain train: each answer leads to the next, such as counting by 3s, word chain or the next line of a poem.
- Double train: two rows go side by side, taking turns, so it moves twice as fast.
π‘ Teacher tips
- Rotate rows, or pick them with the random name picker, so every student gets practice during the week.
- Keep it supportive: when the train stops, the class helps and nobody laughs.
